Forty Episodes asks readers for one thing, an email address, in two places, each for one purpose. This page says exactly what they are.
Most of this site asks nothing of you. There are no accounts, no comments, no tracking pixels, and no advertising.
There are two forms.
“Notify me” appears on dramas that have not premiered yet, and on the handful where we have looked and found no legal, English-subtitled way to watch them anywhere. It lets you ask to be told when that changes.
“Contact Us” lets you ask us to add a show that is not on the site, or to correct one that is. Only the email address is required.
If you never use either form, this page does not apply to you and we hold nothing about you at all.
That is the whole record. No name, no IP address kept against your signup, no browser fingerprint, no profile.
That is the whole record, again with no name and no IP address kept against it. If the form cannot save your request, it offers to send the same details as an ordinary email instead; in that case we hold what is in that email.
For “Notify me”: one email, about the one drama you asked about, if and when a legal route appears. Then the purpose is finished.
For “Contact Us”: we write back about your request, to tell you a show has been added or to ask which one you meant. Then the purpose is finished.
We will never send you anything else. No newsletter, no digest, no "you might also like", no notice about a different show. If you gave us your address for Empresses in the Palace, that is the only thing we will ever write to you about.
We do not sell this data, share it, rent it, or hand it to an advertiser or analytics provider. We may report it in aggregate — "312 people asked to be told when this drama becomes watchable, 140 of them in the United States" — when talking to rights holders about bringing a show to a market. Those counts never include addresses or anything that identifies a person.
On Cloudflare's infrastructure, which is where this site is hosted. Your address is stored under a key derived from a one-way hash of it, so the list can be counted without being read as a list of people.
Cloudflare processes it on our behalf as a hosting provider. Nobody else has access.
Email [email protected] from the address you signed up with, or naming it, and say either:
Either way we do it and reply to confirm. There is no form to fill in and no account to log into. If you are in the UK or EU, this is your right to erasure, and it applies whether or not you invoke it by name. You can also ask us what we hold about you and we will tell you.
Any notification email we send will carry a working unsubscribe link.
If this ever changes in a way that affects what we do with an address already given to us, we will say so here and the change will not apply retroactively to anyone who signed up under different terms.
